The Sacrament of Baptism
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church (paragraph 1213) Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),4 and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”5
When You Have Your Child Baptized, Four Incredible Things Happen:
- Your child becomes a member of the Church.
- Your child is adopted by God.
- Your child is cleansed of original sin.
- Your child is sealed with the Holy Spirit.
Baptism and Parenting Preparation Experience: Helping Parents Raise Great Children!
The Wait is over. Your bundle of joy is here. She’s got dad’s nose and mom’s eyes. And she screams like a banshee. You are overwhelmed with joy and love. You are just plain overwhelmed! And while nothing can fully prepare you to become a mom or a dad, you can prepare to become a great mom or dad. Starting Point gives you the insights, tools, and encouragement to raise a great child – from Baptism and beyond!
Since an important aspect of Baptism is for the child to be welcomed into the worshiping community of the parents, St. Matthew does ask that the parents be registered parishioners of the parish. If you are not parishioners, we know there may be other considerations in seeking to have your child baptized here, and if this is the case, please call our parish office at 630-469-6300.
